La figure de droite montre les lignes directrices pour la capacité totale des composants avec une colonne de 250 mm de long lorsque le composant cible est très soluble dans la phase mobile, qu'il est séparé des impuretés et que les ions sont supprimés. Pour l'élution isocratique, en principe, la capacité totale des composants est proportionnelle au volume de la colonne.
