Regulation 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) entered into force on 1 June 2007. The purpose of this so-called REACH Regulation is to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment as well as the free movement of substances, on their own, in mixtures and in articles (spare parts, components and products), while enhancing competitiveness and innovation.

The protection of human health and the environment is at highest importance for Shimadzu group.

Substances and mixtures

Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) provide safety information on substances and mixtures.

Whereas for articles SDS does not have to be provided according REACH Regulation. Instead, Shimadzu offers Material Safety Data Sheets for some articles if the information for safe use is necessary.

Articles

Some of substances fulfilling one or more of the criteria defined in Article 57 of the REACH Regulation are identified as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). These substances are on the Candidate List for authorisation, and thus they are called Candidate List Substances. This Candidate List for authorisation is currently updated every half a year. Shimadzu carefully watches the Candidate List and controls whether Candidate List Substances are included in purchased parts, components, materials and products which are integrated to our products.

According to the Article 33 of the REACH Regulation, if a Candidate List Substances is present in an article above a concentration of 0.1% (w/w), any supplier of the article has to provide the name of the substance and if necessary sufficient information for the safe use to the recipient/consumer.

The following Shimadzu products are considered to include such articles:
